Academic Alliance Foundationhas officially changed its name toAccordia Global Health FoundationOur mission will remain the same. Our mandate is growing. Moving forward, Accordia Global Health Foundation plans to build new partnerships that will build healthcare capacity and strengthen academic medical centers by:
To overcome the burden of infectious diseases, Accordia Global Health Foundation leads efforts to expand healthcare capacity and strengthen academic medical institutions in Africa."There is a new sense of optimism" in Africa, as Bill Gates noted at the XVI International AIDS Conference. Hope has replaced despair as efforts to combat HIV/AIDS across the continent are meeting with success. Still the numbers remain daunting, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where a demographic destruction is unfolding on a scale unprecedented in human history. Accordia Global Health Foundation believes that there is a paramount need to educate and prepare a new generation of health care professionals in sub-Saharan Africa, skilled in the best practices to lead a resurgent effort against infectious disease. Through Accordia's implementing partner, the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, Accordia enables African doctors and medical scientists to pursue their clinical interests in a world-class academic medical setting while continuing to serve the needs of their homeland. Above all, the IDI model - combining training, clinical care and prevention, and research in an African-based, academic medical institution - has proven extraordinarily productive with far-reaching applications for similar efforts elsewhere in Africa. |
