Professor Clement A. Adebamowo B.M., Ch.B., Sc.D., FWACS, FACS
Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, and the Institute of Human Virology, University of Maryland Baltimore – United States

Dr. Adebamowo is a Professor in the Cancer Epidemiology division, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health; and a member of the Greenebaum Cancer Center and the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine.
 
Dr. Adebamowo also serves as Director of the Center for Bioethics in Ibadan, Nigeria; Director of the West African Framework Program for Global Health; Director of the Nigerian National System of Cancer Registries; and Chairman of the National Health Research Ethics Committee of Nigeria. Presently he is the principal investigator on several training grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Adebamowo is a member of the Population Science Program within the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center Program in Oncology. His research centers on improving knowledge of the molecular biology of HPV associated cancer and also includes identification of new genomics and epigenomics biomarkers of cervical cancer.

Previously, Dr. Adebamowo worked as a professor of surgery, lecturer in nutrition epidemiology and bioethics, and Director of the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and was the Director of the West African Bioethics Training Program, in Ibadan, Nigeria. Since 2005, Dr. Adebamowo has led the West African Bioethics Training program to work in partnership with regional bioethicists, research institutions, teaching hospitals, universities, international NGOs and governments to develop the Nigerian National Health Research Ethics Committee and several institutional research ethics committees. He also led the effort to create a National Health Research Ethics Code for Nigeria and is currently developing additional infrastructure to strengthen health research ethics review in the country through mentoring, training and development of additional guidelines for vulnerable populations, a system of confidential certification and electronic ethics review system.

Dr. Adebamowo's education includes training in medicine, surgery, oncology and epidemiology. In 1984 he received his MB ChB Hons from the University of Jos in Nigeria, after which he completed post-graduate training in surgery at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria. In 2004 he earned a doctorate in Nutrition Epidemiology with a minor in Biostatistics from Harvard School of Public Health.
