Accordia's Core Competencies

Accordia is dedicated to building and supporting sustainable centers of excellence to transform the continent's healthcare systems from within. We believe that centers of excellence are an essential component of any successful strategy to build permanent capacity for health leadership and innovation in Africa.

Accordia involves the private and public sectors in moving these institutions forward.  Companies' investments in the institutions are able to decline over time as the organizations grow, find new sources of funding, and develop a patient constituency that covers their own healthcare costs, when able to.  The institutions' laboratory and clinical trial capabilities become world class, and pharmaceutical companies begin working with them to conduct research.

Accordia provides these sustainable African health institutions with essential resources and catalytic technical assistance throughout each stage of their development: Foundation, Architecture, Growth and Maturity, and Regional Expansion. The process begins when Accordia brings together individuals and organizations committed to addressing a pressing health need and willing to create or strengthen an academic medical institution to bring about substantive and systemic improvements.
