Pfizer Global Health Fellows
Since 2003, Accordia has facilitated bringing private sector medical and business expertise to strengthen the institutional capacity at IDI through the Pfizer Global Health Fellows program. Over the past ten years, the contributions of the 18 fellows have led to immediate results as well as long-lasting operational changes.
In IDI's early years fellows focused on developing strategic planning and grants management systems. As IDI's needs have changed over time, the roles of fellows have evolved, with more recent fellows building IDI's capacity in specific technical areas, such as developing clinical trial capacity that meets international standards, and creating the foundations of a cost effectiveness and health economics unit.
The impact of the Pfizer Global Health Fellows program has been felt across IDI's program areas. For example, fellows have contributed to the documentation and marketing of IDI's training program, streamlined systems for the Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), and created an integrated laboratory information system.
Based on Accordia's success in Uganda, Accordia plans to launch the Pfizer Global Health Fellows program in 2014 at the West African Infectious Disease Institute (WAIDI) in Nigeria.
To date, the value of Pfizer's Global Health program exceeds $2.7 million in pro bono service.
