Malawi Summit on Child Wellness
October 28-30, Mangochi, Malawi, Accordia Global Health Foundation and the University of Malawi will co-host the Malawi Summit on Child Wellness , convening local leaders and global experts in all aspects of pediatric health and related disciplines. We are challenging them to think differently about new preventive and multi-sectoral approaches to ensuring healthy, productive lives for children born in resource-limited settings around the world. Output and insights from the summit’s deliberations will inform our shared vision and strategic plan for Accordia’s proposed International Center for Child Wellness in Malawi. 2012 AIDS Film Festival –A Day of International Film Screenings
July 25, 2012, Washington D.C.–We were a proud sponsor of the 2012 AIDS Film Festival, which featured four international films depicting the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the Carnegie Library Theater in Mt. Vernon Square. For more information, download the festival flyer.
IDCAP Policy Forum
April 30, 2012, Washington DC–Accordia hosted a policy forum at the Woodrow Wilson Center, featuring an in-depth discussion about strengthening human resources for health in Africa, based on Accordia's Integrated Infectious Diseases Capacity Building Evaluation (IDCAP). Panelists included Ms. Lois Quam, Dr. Fitzhugh Mullan, and Mr. Maurice Middleberg. Click here for more information.
A Special Evening in Charleston
March 15, 2012, Charleston, SC–Ashley Hall Senior and HIV/AIDS advocate, Isabelle Luzuriaga, raised awareness about the global HIV epidemic at a special event at Peninsula Grill and through presentations at local Charleston high schools.

2011 Celebration of Partnership

2011 Center of Excellence Summit
September 2011, Kampala Uganda–Accordia’s 2011 Summit in September convened the leaders of 18 of the most successful Centers of Excellence from 12 African countries, and provided an unprecedented opportunity to reflect on their diverse operating models and business plans for sustainability. Summit participants were asked to share their own insights on important institutional topics like Core Funding, Programmatic Focus, and Leadership Development; and candidly exchanged insights, shared lessons learned, and discussed future challenges to the continued success and growth of their Centers. Thrive Hosted by Nancy Brady
December 10, 2010, Washington, DC–Nancy Brady, sister of New England Patriot's star quarterback Tom Brady, helped raise over $250,000 at a holiday fundraiser for Accordia Global Health Foundation on Tuesday, December 7, at the critically-acclaimed L'Espalier Restaurant in Boston. Nancy, a member of Accordia's International Council, spent six months at Accordia's flagship program, the Infectious Diseases Institute in Kampala, Uganda, as part of a Pfizer Global Health Fellowship. Contributions from guests and other supporters, auction proceeds, and matching gifts from Accordia board members made up the total raised. Click here to read more.
2010 Celebration of Partnership
September 14, 2010, Washington, DC–Accordia Global Health Foundation held its annual Celebration of Partnership in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill. This year’s event focused on the opportunities and challenges of building a strong network of African medical schools—locally-owned and locally-managed institutions with the long-term capacity to achieve better health outcomes for Africa. Release Event: Return on Investment
July 27, 2010, Washington, DC–Accordia Global Health Foundation released a new report, titled Return on Investment: The Long-Term Impact of Building Healthcare Capacity in Africa, which was informed by the 2010 Infectious Diseases Summit. 2010 Infectious Diseases Summit
April 15-16, 2010, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania–Accordia Global Health Foundation, in partnership with the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) of Makerere University and the Fogarty International Center at the US National Institutes of Health, hosted Accordia’s Third Annual Infectious Diseases Summit.The theme of the 2010 Summit was Return on Investment: Building Healthcare Capacity in Africa and focused on generating new ways to frame how we define impact and translate the global call to action as it relates to long-term capacity building programs by sharing best practices and providing a dynamic forum for innovative thinking. First Annual Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award Ceremony and Lecture
April 14, 2010, Kampala, Uganda–The first Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award was given to Professor W.D. Francois Venter, who helped develop South Africa’s HIV program in numerous capacities. After accepting the award, Professor Venter gave a lecture on “Developing a Coherent Approach to HIV in Africa.” Click here to read more
