Professor in Residence in Nigeria

Through Accordia’s Professor in Residence program, Dr. Harriet Mayanja-Kizza, dean of the School of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences in Kampala, Uganda, spent two weeks training, mentoring, and lecturing doctors and students at the teaching hospital and College of Health Science at the University of Abuja in Nigeria.

Dr. Mayanja-Kizza and the other visiting scholars who have participated in Accordia’s Professor in Residence program in Nigeria have provided guidance to the students, staff, and administrators in order to strengthen the young medical program at the university. The teaching and mentoring activities share advice and best practices related to clinical care and prevention, training, and medical research.

Of her time in Nigeria, Dr. Mayanja-Kizza said, “I enjoyed meeting the Nigerian medical education community. I hope I will have the opportunity to host some of the residents and staff to Makerere in the future. I thank Accordia for planning and organizing the program, especially exchanges within Africa.”

Through these exchanges, combined with our other programs, Accordia Global Health Foundation is building a network of African Centers of Excellence across the continent that enables collaboration across institutions and encourages faster adoption of best practices.

Dr. Mayanja-Kizza is returning as a Professor in Residence at the University of Abuja this month to continue improving the medical education program.
