Fourth Annual Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award
December 13, 2012, Washington D.C. - Established in memory of Dr. Merle Sande, one of Accordia's co-founders and a renowned infectious diseases specialist, this annual award honors young African health leaders with remarkable personal accomplishments in teaching, research, and/or clinical science. The fourth annual Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award will be given to an emerging African leader who has contributed to the field of infectious disease and embodies Dr. Sande's passion, intellectual drive, and spirit.
Previous awardees include Dr. Kamija Phiri from the University of Malawi College of Medicine, Dr. Christian Happi from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and Professor WD Francois Venter from the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
Nominations and applications for the 2013 Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award will be accepted through 31 January 2013, and the awardee will be announced in March 2013. The awardee will be invited to lead two days of rounds and lectures and to deliver a keynote address at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University, in Kampala, Uganda in April 2013.
