Real Solutions for Fighting Malaria

April 12, 2012, Washington D.C. - “For many of us, mosquitoes mark the return of summer. For others, they represent a threat to survival,” shared Accordia President, Dr. Warner C. Greene.

Despite recent progress, malaria continues to be the leading cause of death for children under the age of five in sub-Saharan Africa. Accordia is committed to fighting this treatable and preventable disease – in collaboration with some of Africa’s best and brightest.

Malaria Expert Recognized with Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award

The Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award is given annually to an emerging African leader who has contributed to the field of infectious disease in Africa, and embodies the passion, intellectual drive, and spirit of Accordia’s founder.

On April 19, in Kampala, Uganda, Accordia will recognize Dr. Kamija Phiri, Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the University of Malawi College of Medicine, for his outstanding work on investigating new strategies to prevent malaria and severe anemia, one of malaria’s most common and devastating complications in children.

Dr. Phiri will deliver a keynote address entitled The Hidden Danger for Children Recovering from Severe Malaria.
