What is capacity building?

Accordia considers healthcare capacity building to be a complementary set of activities that equip people and organizations with the resources they need to independently address their local public health over the long run. Such activities are needed to create skills and build knowledge (through training, for example), but also to provide tools and address the underlying systems required to support sustainable improvement.

Why did Accordia change its name from Academic Alliance Foundation?

The name Accordia derives from the word “accord,” reflecting the growing mandate of the organization and the agreement that all people should have access to quality care. Accordia Global Health Foundation is a name that better supports our mission of building upon the success of our flagship program, the Infectious Diseases Institute.

How do I fund the training of a doctor at IDI?

The Training Program at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) provides doctors and nurses with unparalleled instruction by accomplished trainers and physicians from around the world. The world-class facilities ensure an optimal learning environment, and the on-site HIV clinic affords trainees exposure to complicated and unusual cases under the supervision of IDI clinical leadership and visiting experts. Graduates of the training program also have access to the AIDS Treatment Information Center (ATIC), a toll-free call center staffed by pharmacists and physicians who provide well-researched answers to their clinical questions.

Through the generosity of our donors, Accordia is able to provide financial assistance to many doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who cannot afford the tuition and travel expense. Often, those who need assistance most are precisely those whose jobs are the most challenging: treating thousands of people living with HIV in rural areas without access to specialized clinics or referral hospitals. IDI’s training program alumni return to their home clinics equipped to train their peers and provide quality healthcare in their communities.

You can make a personal contribution to sponsor a trainee at IDI through the Accordia online donation system, or mail cash, check, or money order to:
